About the Work

This body of work was inspired by Giorgio Morandi's still life paintings and drawings. His sense of form and spirit of experimentation have influenced and informed my design work, so when I set out to create a photo series, I thought it would be interesting to have a conversation with his work.

Starting out, the only thing I knew for certain was that I wanted to use my Holga camera. My goal then became to find a way to explore form, color and composition with my camera in a way that pleases me as much as Morandi's paintings do. This led me to try something I have never done before: I set up a still life.

While experimenting with location, composition and light, I realized that the Holga camera was acting as my paint brush. And through double, triple, quadruple, etc. exposures, my still lifes suddenly came alive.
