About the Work
I take photographs to communicate because I’m not a verbal person. Visual information is the easiest for me to experience and enjoy. What I like about photographing is the accidental quality of it: you take this picture and you don’t know what it’s going to be like until you develop it. I love the surprise and mystery of delayed results. I have loved the instinctual aspects of shooting film with my faithful manual Canon cameras. Focusing and shutter speed manipulation feel like an extension of my hand with no digital buttons or menus.
I love taking pictures of people and of roots and trees. This year as my body ages and wrinkles I seem drawn to flowers as they age and disintegrate often beautifully. Other ohotographers have dealt with dying flowers, but I am really happy so far with some of these images.
