I Am My Hands
As vessels for things that you grasp and as a medium for self-expression, your hands dominate your interactions with the world. Yet your perception of what is going on with your hands is usually subconscious.
These images aim to elevate your attention to the intriguing quality of a posed hand holding a common object. A single hand and its reflection appear as a real right hand and a real left hand holding a real object. The reflections are lifelike in their detail but different in overall appearance because of the angle between the lens direction and the surface of the mirror.
Artist Bio
David Feigenbaum uses photography to explore spaces and objects of his everyday life. His subjects include buildings and bridges in urban Boston, nooks and crannies in his old house, streetscapes in his Victorian neighborhood, and still lifes in his kitchen. Often somber and shadowed, the images of simply presented subjects invite the viewer to explore and analyze. Recent bodies of his Boston-based work include “North End Alleys”, “Light in the House” and “Troubled Bridge Over Water: The Northern Avenue Bridge.”
The Northern Avenue Bridge series was exhibited at the United States Court House in the Seaport District of Boston. Other exhibitions have included “Treasure” at the Westport (Mass.) Art Group (juried first in show); and Photography Atelier exhibitions at the Rockport Art Association and the Griffin Museum of Photography, Winchester, Mass.
Feigenbaum has studied portfolio development with Karen Davis and Meg Birnbaum at the Griffin Museum of Photography.
