Seeking the Invisible
It’s always been with a sense of curiosity that I have looked at the structure and patterns of objects in the natural world. These patterns convey life, energy and intrinsically thoughtful purpose.
But do these structures experience time as we do? Does a fallen leaf or a solitary bird provide comfort by reinforcing our perception of reality or are we all merely structures taking form to serve a temporary purpose? I am driven to capture images that attempt to trigger these questions by removing our experience of time and letting the observer explore within for answers.
Artist Bio
Shravan Elapavuluru’s earliest memories of photography were watching his father carry his trusty Yashica film camera on numerous family trips. The pictures captured on these trips are treasured snapshots of his childhood as he explored the diverse and colorful landscapes and cities of India and Nepal. As a child he also had an innate interest in art and enjoyed sketching everything from landscapes to houses and various mechanical objects. These early influences contributed to his aesthetic sense of the world and are reflected in many of his pictures. Self-taught, his first foray into photography was capturing the countryside of the eastern shore of Maryland shortly after his arrival in the US.
Shravan is inspired by simple designs in nature that are elegant yet complex. His pictures often depict objects and places that are aesthetically unique, whether forged by nature or designed by man. In some of his recent works, Shravan attempts to capture unique moments that are either special to him or that he wants captured before they are lost or forgotten.
