Sea Change
As I prepare to leave the New England shore, I feel an urgent need to study what will soon be out of easy sight – the northern seaside. In this project I capture the varied ways the ocean transforms in response to weather, it’s relentless fingering of the shore and worrying of stones, and it’s mingling with the sky, day to day. Sky, sea, and rocky earth. The tossing stones crackle with the change.
Artist Bio
Terry Bleser has spent all of her life near or on the water. As a teenager she and her father built a sailboat that they raced together every summer weekend for many years. The sea provides her refuge, serenity, adventure, and sometimes danger.
As an adult she gravitated to capturing with a camera the sense of familiar places like those of her youth. Her photography serves as a means for personal exploration and advocacy for the natural world.
Terry’s background in graphic arts, painting, printmaking, and the sciences informs how she sees the world and interprets it through photography. She has extensive training in photography from the Corcoran School of Art, New England School of Photography, Maine Media Workshops, and the Griffin Museum.
Terry has exhibited at Griffin Museum, Danforth Museum of Art, PhotoPlace Gallery, SE Center for Photography, and Gallery One in Boston. Her work has also appeared in magazines, and brochures in support of local conservation groups. She currently resides in Newton, Massachusetts.
