Bio

Betty Stone’s recent work explores the dynamic energy of dancers of lindy hop and balboa, two American dance styles from the 1930’s and 1940’s which have been enjoying revivals worldwide. An enthusiastic dancer herself, she focuses on capturing the movement, forms and shapes of these two exciting fast-paced dances.

Stone has exhibited her photographs in a variety of Boston venues. Recent juried group exhibitions include “Order/Chaos” at the Cambridge Art Association (CAA); “Scratching the Surface,” CAA; and the Northeast Prize Show, CAA. Stone has work on exhibit at 13forest gallery, Arlington, MA; Blue Cloud Gallery, Somerville, MA; the Arnold Arboretum Gift Shop, Boston; and at Mad About Shoe in Winchester, MA. She is a member of Locally Grown, a collective of Boston-area artists and is an active member of the Cambridge Art Association, the Winchester Artists Network, and the Arlington Center for the Arts.

Stone is a native of Boston and is a member of the 2012 Photography Atelier16 with Karen Davis and Meg Birnbaum at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, MA. In addition to her love of dancing, her experiences living in Lisbon and Paris as well as her fascination with other languages and cultural perspectives influence her photographic eye. She lives and works in Arlington, MA.
