Bio
For photographer Astrid Reischwitz, capturing the diversity of urban life has been a strong interest. Her series Street Art incorporates her fascination with Street Photography and her love for visual arts. Recent explorations of portraying people through their everyday objects and interior spaces, has led to a new series of intimate portraiture.
Solo exhibitions of Street Art include: the Griffin Museum of Photography; Photographic Resource Center at Boston University (NEO); and Boston Public Library. It was also included in Echoes of Pop in the New Millennia, Cambridge Art Association (CAA). Her black and white series Expectations, focusing on the shapes of pregnant women, was featured at Emerson Umbrella Center for the Arts, Concord MA.
Reischwitz’s work has appeared in recent juried exhibitions at the Danforth Museum of Art, Off the Wall; CAA National Prize Show and Red; PhotoPlace Gallery VT; Bedford Free Public Library; Brush Gallery Lowell; Concord Art Association, Frances N. Roddy Open Competition; and DeCordova Museum School Gallery.
A graduate of the Technical University Braunschweig, Germany, with a degree in chemistry, Reischwitz began her study of photography at the International Center of Photography in New York soon after moving to the United States. After relocating to the Boston area she continued her studies at the New England School of Photography, Boston, and Photography Atelier at Lesley University and Griffin Museum of Photography, Winchester MA.
Reischwitz curates art exhibitions at the Bedford Free Public Library. She is also a member of the Cambridge Art Association, the Concord Art Association, the Brush Gallery, Lowell, and the Photographic Resource Center, Boston.
