Bio
Larry Raskin’s interest in photography deepened as his appreciation grew for photography’s power to capture a moment that brings the unnoticed and unexpected into view. As a community leader and volunteer, he photographs local programs, people and events ‘on the street’. Widely traveled and an avid walker, he documents cultures and the environment at home and abroad
His community projects include: Literacy is Power, portraits of the students and staff of Project Literacy, in Watertown, Mass.; and Meltdown!, the recent economic crisis through signs, buildings and people. His images are featured on the website of the World in Watertown, a human rights group he co-founded and chairs: www.worldinwatertown.org.
Environmental projects include: Reflections on the Move, street scenes reflected in cars, busses, motorcycles and trucks; Nature by Two, parallel images of designs in nature from St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands and Cambridge, Mass.; and Charles River Light, a group show of natural and urban settings along the Charles River.
Larry has exhibited in group shows at the Cambridge Art Association; Watertown Art Association; Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary, Massachusetts Audubon Society, Belmont; West Newton Cinema; Newton Public Library; Photographic Resource Center at Boston University; Arsenal Center for the Arts, Watertown; and Cambridge Center for Adult Education.
Larry has studied at the DeCordova Museum, Lesley University, Omega Institute, Cambridge Center for Adult Education, Newton and Watertown Adult Education, and Massachusetts Audubon Society.
