Collection: Live, Work, Praise

My interest is in people, the way we live together;  support, enhance, and evolve each other.  In this photo essay, which is likely the beginning of a years-long process, I’ve started to tell the present-day story of the city where I live, Medford, Massachusetts.

Medford is a proud, working-class city that in the past has been home to Pawtucket Native Americans, Puritans,  country estate landholders, renowned shipbuilders,  rum distillers, a tightly woven African-American middle class, and,  more recently, a large immigrant population.

Wherever you look, you need only scratch the surface to find traces of the past. It is a place where you can still find an old ‘Spa’; a real hardware store; coffee shops with counters and stools; and places of worship of every sort. The old and the gritty in Medford have not yet been glossed over, and I am ever grateful for that.

My pictures are of people with whom I live, work and praise.  They are my neighbors and friends.
