The Spit: An Ever-Changing Shoreline
I love the element of surprise that greets me when I venture out to photograph secluded beaches, sand dunes and tidal pools. Every day there are new colors and shapes and a changing play of light across the land, water and sky. The patterns- cloud formations, reflections dancing in the water and the rippled designs carved into the sand by the gentle waves- entrance me.
My goal is to capture what I see- the vivid spectrum of colors, shadows and textures as the sun rises in the East and slowly sinks into the West; the landand the sky merging at the horizon. The sun is my brush painting the scene with rich hues of gold, pink and red. Tidal pools fill with dramatic shadows and reflections of land and sky.
"The Spit" is a collection of photographs taken in Scituate Ma. This fragile peninsula was formed in 1898 during the "Portland Gale", a nor'easter that severed the landmass from the mainland. Today it slowly being reclaimed by the sea, eroding from the effects of powerful storms and man's attempts to control the shape of the shoreline. Walk along the boardwalk through the marshes and tidal pools, drinking in its beauty. I cherish this landscape that with a flash of a storm will be reclaimed by the ocean and lost to the horizon.
