Still Life
In the course of a day, the eye may note an element of beauty in an everyday object. It might be the way light falls on a gleaming white pitcher, the charged coloration of a piece of fruit, or the sinuous curve of a wayward appliance cord. Even a smudge of lipstick on a coffee cup. In the blink of an eye we register beauty. And we wish to freeze that moment in time.
The still life is an attempt to collect, arrange and record such experiences. The still life is paradoxical: It succeeds by making a fleeting observation permanent while, at the same time, capturing the essence of transience.
In “Still Life” I explore the fundamental power of this art form.
