Bio

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new lands but seeing with new eyes. ~Marcel Proust

Photographer Lora Brody captures the familiar in surprising and unexpected ways.   Her installation at the Griffin Museum as part of Photography Atelier 19 introduces a novel way of looking at the passage of time through the faces and words of women at her 50th high school reunion.  She spent three seasons photographing in Fenway Park, focusing on the fans and workers.  The resulting portfolio presents a cross-section of the colorful and diehard members of Red Sox Nation.

Several of these baseball photographs hang in the corporate offices of the Boston Red Sox as well as in the private collections of its executives.  Images from the Fenway portfolio have been exhibited at Harvard University, The Griffin Museum of Photography, a public installation created by The Magenta Foundation on the Boston Harbor Walk, and at The Museum of Fine Arts Boston.   Brody has photographed extensively in Provincetown on Cape Cod using both, digital and alternative photography methods.

Her Herring Cove portfolio emerged from weeks spent every summer photographing from inside a seaside snack shop as beach-goers bought and consumed their ice cream and hot dogs.  Her pinhole series, “Water Bodies” depicts amorphous shapes suspended in deeply saturated aqua and emerald water. Images from these portfolios have been recognized in juried shows and competitions such as the Copley Society Juried Show and PX3 Prix de la Photographie, Paris, and hang in private collections.

Brody’s photographs have appeared on the cover and in feature articles in The Boston Globe Sunday Magazine and The Cape Cod Times.  Her food photography accompanied her feature articles in Horticulture Magazine, Cape Cod Magazine and Cooking Light.

Ms. Brody has studied street photography with Constantine Manos, Alex Webb and Amy Arbus.  She has attended classes and workshops with pinhole photographer Marian Roth and studied alternative processes with Lana Z. Caplan.  She is a graduate of New York University, and is represented by Susan Ginsberg at Writers House in New York City.
