Bio
Claudia Ruiz-Gustafson’s photographs are autobiographical. A mix of the metaphorical and the symbolic, her work explores the female figure and her continual search for an answer as well as her way of dealing with the unexplained.
Images from Gustafson’s, “The Lady of Lachay”, were exhibited at the Griffin Museum of Photography’s Annual Juried Exhibition and Amazing Things Art Center Gallery. Her newest work, “Reflections” will be exhibited at Photography Atelier 20 at the Griffin Museum in 2014.
Ruiz-Gustafson was born in Lima, Perú and grew up in the bohemian seacoast neighborhood of Barranco. She studied at Universidad de Lima with Roberto Huarcaya, one of Perú’s most recognized photographers, and at Kodak Interamericana in Lima where she learned alternative darkroom processes. Soon after graduating, she started freelancing as a photographer for a local feminist magazine and a newspaper.
Moving to the US in 2000, Claudia started a portrait and wedding photography business in 2005 based in Massachusetts. She has been featured in articles as being one of the best children photographers in the Boston area. In the US, Claudia has studied art and photography at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and the New England School of Photography.
