Bio

David Hiley’s photographic interests range widely.  They include abstract macro studies, street photography, crumbling infrastructure, and cityscapes.  The constant of his work, however, is his focus on the geometry of a scene and relationships between line and color.  Philosophical interests increasingly inform the content of his photographic explorations.  His recent series of photographs, The Troubles, May 2014, is a commentary on the tension between past and present in ongoing sectarian conflict in Northern Ireland.

David’s photographs have been featured in a two-person show at the Jan Dempsey Art Gallery in Auburn, AL.  He has exhibited in numerous juried shows at the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery and the Seacoast Repertory Theatre Gallery, both in Portsmouth, NH.  He has been an invited contributor to two exhibitions at Gallery 6 in the New Hampshire Children’s Museum in Dover, NH.  He will show work from his portfolio, The Troubles, at the upcoming Photography Atelier20 exhibition at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, MA.  He is a juried member of the New Hampshire Art Association and has served on its Board of Directors.

David is retired after a 45-year career as a teacher, scholar, and university administrator.  His philosophical interests are ethics and political philosophy, and he has published four books and numerous articles in scholarly journals. He is currently working on a book on human rights as well as a photographic series exploring social justice issues.
