Bio
Joe Turner is a fine art photographer specializing in portraits of men and women; two of his series feature clergy, and military personnel. His fascination with nuanced facial expressions has set him on a lifelong search to discover and capture a person’s essence in a photographic portrait.
His portraits have been exhibited in solo shows in Massachusetts at the Beebe Estate Gallery in Melrose, the Follen Church Society in Lexington and the Malden Senior Center. Most recently his photographs, “Photographing People,” were shown at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester.
Joe was born in Brooklyn, NY, where he learned to appreciate variations in ethnic expressions. It was his Army service on Okinawa where his fascination with faces was realized and he purchased his first camera in the PX to record his vision. He believes that a photographic portrait is the perfect medium to a person’s true spirit. In his portraits he strives to capture an expression that reveals a person’s inherent dignity and grace.
