Street Works: New York and Boston
I love the dynamics of street photography. I love the way people interact with each other, the environment and most of all with me as the photographer. The process is quite fluid. I will decide on a location that I feel is likely to offer some photographic possibilities. When I arrive at a location I begin to look for people and/or events that might be of interest. Once I feel a little 'tug' when viewing a scene, I will take a picture.
One challenge of street photography is that events happen rapidly, and there is often no chance for a do-over. If you are in the wrong position or the light is not right, the picture will not happen, and you have to keep looking for another possibility. Another challenge is that subjects do not always appreciate having their picture taken. So one needs to occasionally be a diplomat as well as a photographer.
This series of images were taken in New York (Coney Island and Midtown Manhattan) and downtown Boston. My work often takes me to locations where large groups of people congregate in order to maximize the possibility for good photographs.
