Bio
Photographer Bob Avakian and his wife visited Martha’s Vineyard for the summer in 1973 and it has been home ever since. Trained in architecture, engineering and building, for years he worked in the construction field as a custom homebuilder. After finding himself in management, removed from the satisfaction of hands-on involvement, he turned to photography as a means of self-expression. As his photographic vision has evolved he has been drawn to the natural landscape and an exploration of night photography.
Bob was selected as a Photolucida Critical Mass 2012 Finalist, received honorable mention in a number of categories at the 2012 International Photography Awards (IPA) 10th annual competition, and has been featured in the influential blog, “Lenscratch”. In April he will be exhibiting his photographs at the Davis Orton Gallery, Hudson NY. Recent shows include juried exhibitions at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester MA; Gallery Seven, Maynard MA; The Greg Moon Gallery, Taos New Mexico; South Shore Arts Center and Cape Cod Art Association’s “Big Picture Show” and “All New England” exhibition. At the 2012 All Island Art Show on Martha’s Vineyard, he received the Best in Show Award.
He is a juried member of the Cape Cod Art Association and the South Shore Art Center in Cohasset, MA.
