Animal Blocks
In these whimsical montages featuring animals, I have placed each within an imaginary environment created from my own experience, feeling or eccentric association with that animal.
The strong colors and light suggest the bright, saturated illustrations on children’s blocks. Each composition includes a letter that describes an attribute of the animal rather than its name. The cat is “queen,” the dog is “faithful,” the bear is “honey,“ (a nod to A.A.Milne) and the gazelles are “glyphs,” a reference to my college day archeological studies - all created to delight our child within.
Animal Blocks are digitally composed; every element, background and foreground has been photographed and placed in my imaginary context to show a conceived animal world - resulting in controlled images that bridge my attraction to primitive, representational painting and photographic constructions.
