Bio
Vicki McKenna, as a geologist and teacher, started taking photographs to show examples of geologic concepts to her students. Soon the creation of a memorable image became her goal. She is drawn to photograph the landscape, both natural and human-influenced. McKenna captures the details, colors, and shapes of a small section of a scene that represents the whole. Her work includes photographing with alternative light sources, either at night or with infrared light. Current projects include Autumn Light, images from the natural woodlands and meadows of the northeastern U.S. and northern California, and New England Bedrock, a portfolio of black and white photographs of farm, quarry, and mill.
McKenna has studied at the Photography Atelier at the Griffin Museum, the New England School of Photography, and at workshops with Stephen Johnson and Alison Shaw. This year her work has been shown in a number of juried group shows including the 12th National Prize Show, Cambridge Art Association and Community of Artists, Danforth Museum. She has had an invited solo show at the Art Expo Gallery in the Harvard Vanguard offices, Cambridge, MA.
