Pink and Blue

In Pink and Blue, I observe the ambiguity of roles of young children at play.

I relish their intensity of focus and lack of inhibition as they play with their dolls, interact with one another, and scurry around the back yard.  So focused and attentive to their play are they, I am invisible to them:  this photographer’s dream.

Do the binds of gender socialization remain?

While these children seem so unbounded and free, I can still detect some “boyish” and “girlish” behaviors.  Still, there is a fluidity of roles I did not experience as a child.
I ponder my own past and yearn for that freedom.  My own childhood, dictated by the old rules and roles, was so colored by pink and blue.
