About the Work

The photos in this portfolio are portraits of individuals and couples, taken on the streets of Boston and Cambridge. My work as a counselor has heightened my interest in people’s backgrounds and histories. Thus, in numerous cases in the process of taking the picture or afterward, I have tried to connect with the person by engaging in conversation.  In some cases I merely thanked them for their patience and kindness.  In others we had somewhat lengthy conversations.  Having for a long time concentrated on landscape and nature photography, these pictures were a departure for me, but one that I enjoyed immensely.  As an abstract painter, the framing and composition of the images is critical for me and often happens somewhat intuitively.
